City of Guelph: Municipal Comparator Study
The City of Guelph commissioned a Municipal Comparator Study to assess the city’s competitiveness on the factors influencing site selection and business investment decisions.
The Mellor Murray Consulting team, working in conjunction with a project steering committee conducted a study including the review of the key site selection factors, stakeholder consultation, competitive analysis and assessment of the assets and tools the city employs in its investment attraction and expansion efforts.
Mellor Murray Consulting provided the City of Guelph with a thorough competitive analysis and identified economic development best practices across U.S. and Canadian municipal jurisdictions related to investment attraction. This study was very complex due legislative differences between U.S. and Canadian municipalities, governance structures of economic development agencies, and the inherent differences of each municipality, but Aileen and her team were able to synthesize this data to help us understand unique incentive offerings and the relative importance of various hard and soft incentives to investment prospects and site selectors. Additionally, Mellor Murray Consulting provided staff with applicable information to assist us in targeted investment attraction marketing, communications and improved data management resources.
